Château de Preisch - Moselle - Chapelle travaux
Endangered since 2020, the chapel classified as a Historical Monument is now under work for a long restoration.

Following a subsidence in 2020, the 160-year-old chapel has seen its structure put at risk, with the collapse of the framework on the vault and the separation of the north nave.

As part of the Heritage Mission, thanks in particular to the organization of the French Games' Heritage Mission games, the Heritage Foundation has provided support for the preservation of the Chapel of the Castle of Preisch in Basse-Rentgen.

The restoration work has just begun and changes are already visible. The tombstones that surrounded the chapel were removed one by one, then the tombs of 1840 and the possession cross of 1514, classified as a Historical Monument, were protected by coffers. The stained glass windows are now being removed, heading for a complete renovation, while the scaffolding is mounted around the chapel to encompass the 2/3 rear.

The first phase of the construction is a year-old and focuses on the closed-open sacristy, choir, transept and second span of the nave. It is a work of goldsmiths that will play step by step and we will keep you informed gradually of the stages.

Explanatory panels will also be available at the reopening of the domain to visits, in mid-April 2025. We look forward to sharing with you this heritage conservation operation, made possible in particular through your annual visits.

See you soon!
